Same as Brian, it was always on. Plus the empeller is cheap plastic and it failed.

Defective Wayne ESP-15 12 volt battery backup sump pump Review by Brian in MA

Purchased the Wayne ESP-15 battery backup. The control board was defective X2. The controlled has the pump on all the time regardless of the switch position (Switch works properly) and the battery monitor shows the new fully charged battery as "low". (Cook the new battery much?) Very disappointed with this unit, could not rely on this for an emergency backup unfortunately. Spoke with Wayne, said, would need to send defective unit back before it could be replaced... So much for a fast install, will use a different manufacturer.
